New York State West Youth Soccer Association Risk Management Program

IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE DOING YOUTH MATCHES IN WESTERN NEW YORK, YOU NEED NOT APPLY FOR NSYW RISK MANAGEMENT. There may be risk management requirements in your home state though. For information, contact your home state association State Referee Adminstrator.

As a new referee, it is most likely you will be limited to doing Youth matches. Almost all USSF affiliated youth matches in Western New York are affiliated through New York State West Youth Soccer (NYSWYSA) who in turn is the state association member of the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA).

USYSA requires all member states to participate in their KidSafe program to protect young players from people who may not have their best interest in mind. They require that all referees, coaches and administrators have a background check done on them before they are allowed to be on the field with the players.

As a new referee in Western New York, regardless of your current age, will be required to submit to their process OR YOU WILL LIKELY NOT GET ANY MATCHES!

If you follow the steps outlined below, you will have the best possible chance of getting cleared quickly. It can easily take a month to get this clearance so we recommend you start the process BEFORE you take your entry level class. Please note that the process is different depending on your age due to New York State law.
